OUR TAPAS TOURS

Whether it's tapas at lunchtime or dinner in the heart of the Barrio de las Letras:
A literary feast for the palate!

In the heart of the Barrio de las Letras (Literary Quarter), we'll visit 2-3 authentic tapas bars where you'll try typical Spanish specialties and learn what makes a real tapa. Enjoy this culinary journey of discovery, all about Spanish flavors. I'll gladly give you insider tips for your further culinary explorations in Madrid and make sure this lunch becomes an unforgettable Spanish taste experience. At the beginning of the tour, I will collect the amount for food and drinks. My recommendation is €30 per person for a selection of delicious Spanish lunch tapas and 3 drinks. We can gladly decide on the orders together, or I can surprise you with a selection of typical Spanish delicacies that perfectly fit this "German" lunchtime. Let yourself be amazed by the diversity of Spanish cuisine! We'll start at the charming Plaza de Santa Ana, in the heart of the Literary Quarter. The meeting point is right in front of the statue of the writer Calderón de la Barca. From there, we'll start a short walk to selected tapas bars and taverns, where you'll immediately get a first impression of the lively atmosphere of this historic district and the incomparable Spanish gastronomy.

Want to Discover the Barrio de las Letras (Literary Quarter)? Truly Experience It with Our Tapas Tour

1. The Stage: Where Tapas Meet Literature

To understand why our tour is so special, you first must understand why the neighborhood is. Its name ("Literary Quarter") is no accident. This was the home of the giants of the Spanish Golden Age.

  • Cervantes lived and was buried here.

  • Lope de Vega had his home (now a museum) just a few steps away.

  • Quevedo and Góngora, eternal rivals, traded literary barbs in these very plazas.

How do we integrate this into our tour?

We don't do a boring history tour. We make history the perfect appetizer. Our local guides will lead you through the same streets they walked, telling you the anecdotes that aren't in the guidebooks as we head to our first stop. You'll understand why a specific tavern is on that corner and what it had to do with the open-air theater (corral de comedias) that used to be next door.

2. The Challenge: Too Many Options, Too Many Tourists

The Barrio de las Letras has, quite literally, hundreds of bars. From taverns that haven't changed their decor since 1920 to modern gastrobares serving avant-garde tapas.

It's a paradise, but it's also overwhelming. It is incredibly easy to fall into a generic, overpriced, low-quality bar.

Therein lies the value of our tour: We are your personal curators.

We have spent years exploring every corner. We know the owners, we know who fries the best croquetas, who carves the jamón with mastery, and where the tortilla de patatas is still perfectly juicy.

3. What You'll Discover on Our Tour (That You Wouldn't Find Alone)

A tapas tour isn't just about eating; it's about understanding a culture. "Tapear" (to go for tapas) is social, it's about moving, it's about sharing.

  • The Barrio's Secrets: We'll take you down alleyways you would have missed, showing you where "Don Quixote" was first printed or the house where Lope de Vega wrote his final works, all while heading to the next tapa.

  • The "How-To" of Madrid Tapas: Do you order a ración (large portion) or a tapa? How do you properly order a caña (small beer)? Which wine pairs best with what? We teach you the local codes so you feel like a Madrileño.

  • Unforgettable Flavors: We won't serve you "tourist tapas." You'll taste the food we eat. From an award-winning Manchego cheese to perfect garlic shrimp (gambas al ajillo) or the creamiest croqueta in the neighborhood.

  • Stories and Company: Our guides are passionate about Madrid and its gastronomy. They won't just feed you; they'll share stories, laughs, and create an unbeatable group atmosphere.

Don't Be Just Another Tourist, Be a Culinary Explorer

The Barrio de las Letras is the gastronomic soul of Madrid, but it's a shy soul that doesn't reveal itself to just anyone. It requires someone to introduce you.

Allow us to be your hosts. Let us take you beyond Plaza de Santa Ana and show you the hidden taverns and authentic flavors that make this neighborhood the best place in the world to eat, drink, and live.

Our spots are limited because we believe in small groups and personal experiences. Don't just settle for walking through history; come and taste it with us!
