Detailed description: Where the Tagus and the Jarama meet, the Spanish kings built their spring residence and spent two centuries planting gardens around it. On my 2-hour private guided tour in Aranjuez we first visit the inside of the Royal Palace and then walk through the royal gardens. The tour is meant for groups who are already in Aranjuez or travel there on their own: the train from Madrid-Atocha stops just a short walk from the palace.

• The gardens have their own seasonal opening hours, and the fountains are not always running.

• Accessibility: there are lifts in the palace; the garden route is flat but long and on gravel.
